Xiaomi Poco F6 Review : Best Mid-range Phone for 2024

A huge step ahead, Xiaomi Poco F6 takes a combination of leading-edge technology and affordable pricing as the main attributes in its positioning as one of the most dynamic releases in the mid-segment of smartphones. Building on the success of the other siblings in the series, the Poco F6 is targeted at active users from mobile gamers to photography lovers, providing powerful performance and an impressive number of features. The Xiaomi Poco F6 is an impressive mid-budget smartphone, and when it comes to solid performance, an awesome display, and a serious camera system, users will want to instantly grab it.

Xiaomi Poco F6: Design and Display

The Poco F6 features a glass front and polycarbonate back, 160.5 x 74.4 x 7.8 mm in size, and weighs only 179 g. It features a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, with 1220 x 2712 pixels, up to a refresh rate of 120Hz, and brightness up to 2400 nits. It's ideal for media consumption, gaming, and productivity with bright and sharp visuals no matter the lighting. The Poco F6 is a device that feels practical and functional but not much of a style statement.

Entirely made of plastic, it's comfortable to hold onto since it is lightweight and smooth but still grippy without being too slippery.    Plastic is redeeming, particularly for weight reduction and the boosting of grip, making the Poco F6 relatively easy to use daily. This rather modestly designed phone doesn't immediately pop out from the crowd, and material choices further make it one robust and nice device to hold onto.

The display is pretty resilient-the Poco F6 does a good job even in the brightest British summer sun, allowing readability with minor strong glare. Of course, there are more expensive devices that do it much better thanks to advanced coatings and higher nits, but the F6 did well in testing against harsh light. Its screen stayed functional and readable, with a pleasingly enjoyable view sans the need for premium features.

Xiaomi Poco F6: Performance

Under the hood, the Poco F6 runs an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, configured with a Cortex-X4 core running at 3.0GHz. It is further mated to the Adreno 735 GPU for seamless and smooth operation and plays most games and multitasks without breaking a sweat. It is offered either in 8GB or 12GB RAM, while the storage options are 256GB and 512GB, but it does not support storage expansion.

As one would expect with such a powerhouse, the Poco F6 runs games like Fortnite, PUBG, and Genshin Impact without breaking a sweat-frame rates higher than most, if not all, Androids out there today. Transitions within the device are seamless and fluid. All these have been further corroborated in various benchmarks where the Poco F6 stands toe-to-toe with the most powerful contenders. It returned a single-core score of 1963 and a multi-core score of 4952, putting it squarely on par with the best devices powered by the 2023 Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chipset.

Xiaomi Poco F6: Camera

The camera setup of the Poco F6 is very impressive in its category. It comes with a triple rear camera system that includes a 50MP main sensor Sony IMX882, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. The main camera features OIS and is capable of recording videos up to 4K at 60fps. On the front, there's a 20MP camera that can record 1080p at 60fps, ideal for selfies and video calls. The Pro adds a 2-megapixel macro camera, which is of limited practical use. Its main camera has a bigger sensor that really amps performance in low-light conditions.Besides this, the Pro offers a 16-megapixel shooter on the front for clearer selfies and video calls. While the Pro takes sharper images, the F6 captures more real and natural-looking colors. Both are able to shoot great 4K videos, but only the Pro has 24 frames per second, which really can make your videos look nice. Indeed, the rear primary camera of the Poco F6 manages to shoot 4K video at 60fps with plenty of detail visible. However, if you are planning to get stable footage with OIS, you will have to turn it down to 1080p and 30fps.

While 4K videos show a lot of detail, the colour and shadows are rather muted.Panning's smooth, but stabilization goes out the window if you're walking or running while filming. Shooting at 1080p 30fps is considerably better stabilized. The main camera does quite well in low-light; it's a bit noisy, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. The ultra-wide camera-which also shoots at 1080p 30fps-fares worse, especially in daylight where videos are frequently noisy and shadows much darker.

Xiaomi Poco F6: Battery and Charging

The device packs a 5000 mAh battery, which is barely enough for a day of work. It further supports 90W fast charging, enabling the users to fill from 2% to 100% in just about 35 minutes, which is incredibly convenient for users on the go.

About the battery life, it is necessary to mention that the Poco F6 did a very good job in our test.    It lasted an impressive 21 hours in our HD video loop test, which is a strong performance for an in-class device. In real life, the phone consistently delivered more than a day and a half of battery life. With a mix of gaming, streaming YouTube and Netflix, GPS navigation, and camera use, I still managed around 6 hours of screen-on time. Running on a low battery, however, is not much of an issue, considering that 90W of fast charging power is sufficient to juice the phone from 0% to 100% in about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Xiaomi Poco F6: Connectivity and Features

It has almost all connectivity options available, including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and USB Type-C. It also has an infrared sensor and stereo dual speakers with Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos support. The Poco F6 does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, which would definitely be a bummer for some people.

It has all the features available with HyperOS, except there is a slew of apps pre-set on it. Thankfully, no Hot apps or games are there, and you can uninstall all the pre-loaded apps if needed. Additional AI enhancements with this phone include, but are not limited to, AI Gesture Control, AI Image Expansion, AI Eraser Pro, AI Bokeh, AI Noise Cancellation, AI Network and Connectivity, Wildboost 3.0, among other standard HyperOS capabilities.

Xiaomi Poco F6: Price and Availability

Unlike other high-end smartphones, Xiaomi Poco F6 has well-priced to capture a big market of buyers who use smartphone for business purposes. The exact cost may differ with region and store, but it is considered as a mid range smartphone right about 380 USD. As for those who want to get the Poco F6 they can do that through online stores like Amazon, eBay or the official website of Xiaomi. Further, it is available in physical electronics stores and in authorized Xiaomi retailers’ shops. It is also important to check in various sources as this way you can be assured of getting the best offer.

Is The Xiaomi Poco F6 Worth Buying in 2024 ?

Xiaomi Poco F6 could be the best value-for-money offering that comes with a powerful phone, featuring a great display, solid camera setup, and fast charging. Minor drawbacks such as the absence of a headphone jack are eclipsed by its many other strengths, making the Poco F6 one of the strongest contenders in the mid-range market.
