Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Design and Build Quality

Sleek, minimalistic design-true to the signature style of Bose. The headphones are lightweight yet strong; plush ear cups warrant many hours of comfort, even when listening for a long period. The headband is reinforced with premium materials to provide strength and, at the same time, comfort to the wearer.

The controls are pretty handily situated on the right earcup, where one multi-purpose button manages power, pairing mode and play/pause/track skipping. Another button toggles listening modes, which cycles through your pre-set options-including any custom modes you've added in the Modes screen. Alongside these buttons is a touch-sensitive strip for volume adjustment which, when pressed and held down, doubles as a 'Shortcut' button. All these controls work intuitively and do their jobs well.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

The most salient features of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra are, among others, superior Active Noise Cancellation. These headphones apply the latest Bose proprietary technology and can cancel enormous ranges of ambient noise, such as hissing and whining to rumbling and screeching noises of planes, trains, or busy offices. It allows for its adjustment so that the user can fine-tune it to his desired level of noise cancellation.

As you would have expected from a brand considered as the benchmark for ANC, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones features excellent full-range noise isolation. Unlike the Bose QuietComfort 45/QC45 Wireless, these headphones now introduce Bose's CustomTune, which automatically optimizes the ANC to your hearing profile and environment. This has the effect of neutering low-frequency background chatter, such as the deeper rumbles of bus and plane engines, along with mid-range sounds, including ambient conversation. They also do an impressive job with high-pitched sounds, including air conditioning unit hums.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Sound Quality

First of all, Bose has never compromised on sound quality, and the QuietComfort Ultra headphones keep the tradition alive. It produces rich, counterbalanced audio, focusing on clarity and depth. The bass is punchy yet not overbearing, mids are clear, and the treble is crispy. From classical music to hip-hop, or podcasts, the quality of sound is always impressive.

The Immersive Audio feature on the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones does exactly what it says on the can, placing the sound around your ears-as if it's emanating from speakers and not being directly funneled into your ears-to great effect. The head tracking works superbly, very responsive without noticeable lag. While this mode elevates the experience for both music and movies, I didn't find it particularly transformative. This is in part because it involves some compromise. Whereas the spatial audio on Apple's AirPods uses Dolby Atmos 3D sound systems, the immersion from Bose relies on its processing of stereo sound.

Being familiar with AirPods Max and AirPods Pro 2, I found the Bose implementation less convincing at recreating a true theater-like experience. That said, it's still a welcome feature - if you're watching a movie on a plane, for instance, it admirably creates the impression that the sound is coming from outside the earcups, adding an extra layer of depth to the experience.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Bluetooth Connectivity and Battery Life

For stable and power-efficient connectivity with your device, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones feature Bluetooth 5.2. Additionally, they include a multi-point connection, where you can connect to two devices simultaneously and switch back and forth seamlessly with no hassle.

In terms of battery life, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra presents you with up to 24 hours of playtime on one charge with ANC enabled.    If you're in a rush, the option for fast charging will get you up to 3 hours of tunes with a quick 15-minute charge. This endurance will easily suffice to cover a week's worth of daily commutes or two to three full workdays of continuous listening. For longer flights, though, it is best to charge your headphones to full capacity before boarding so that you can reap ample amounts of battery life during your journey.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Customizable Controls and Bose Music App

Bose made it easy for you to personalize your listening with earcup touch controls, giving you the ability to tailor your listening the way you want. With simple gestures, you will be able to adjust your volume, skip tracks, and take calls. Also, the Bose Music app offers more features that let you customize your listening: set the EQ, noise canceling, and even update the firmware in your headphones.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Comfort and Portability

Comfort has always been paramount for Bose, and on this aspect, the QuietComfort Ultra headphones deliver with great success. The ear cups will be wrapped in plush memory foam that molds the fit to your ears to reduce pressure, bolstering comfort. The headphones fold flat for easy storage in the included carrying case, which makes them perfect for travel, too.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra: Voice Assistant Integration and Call Quality

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones now support voice assistant integration through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, whereby you can play music, ask about the weather, and control your schedule with your voice.

You'll get great call quality with these headphones, advanced microphones, and be certain your voice will come across loud and clear-even in noisy environments. The mics work alongside the ANC to cancel out background noise during calls.

Is The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Worth Buying in 2024 ?

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones are definitely the best for those who require superior noise cancellation, class-leading sound quality, and simply incomparable comfort. Be it a frequent flyer, commuter, or an audio enthusiast, these headphones will service all needs. Yes, the price is indeed premium, but such features and performance will easily justify the investment the product deserves in any audiophile's collection.

But these headphones aren't an upgrade; instead, they are one in the way Bose can be committed to excellence in personal audio. If you are out to experience the best Bose has to offer, it is upon the QuietComfort Ultra that your search should be focused.
